Devon U13s on their way to victory over Gwent

Scorecard

DEVON U13s beat Gwent by 103 runs in glorious sunshine at Abergavenny CC.

Three new caps made their debut and all three contributed to the win.

Ciaran Gray opened and made a mature 69 before he was bowled.

Sam Russell made a quick 44 off 36 balls coming in at six with some powerful hitting.

Archie Farkins, who went in at 65 for two, made 56 in his first innings of the season.

Farkins shared a stand of 105 with Gray for the third wicket.

Jasper Presswell, in his first match as captain made a run a ball 27 in a partnership of 74 with Russell for the sixth wicket.

Gwent never looked like getting near the Devon score of 258 for seven. Wickets fell regularly as they struggled to 89 for five.

Off-spinner of Rory Medlock, last year's under-12 cricketer of the year, got into the middle and lower order on his way to figures of three for 21.

There were three wickets for Jasper Presswell (3-26) and one for debutant Charlie Presswell caught at short-extra cover by his twin the captain.

Charlie could have had two wickets if Jamie had held a second, sharp chance a few balls later.

Tom Hatton (2-26) hastened Gwent's demise to 155 for nine when their overs ran out.

A bonus for Devon's young cricketers was to play at a beautiful ground that used to be a regular out-ground used by Glamorgan for First Class games.
