Alphington looking to recruit

Mark Halse hits out for Alphington

ALPHINGTON are hoping a couple of new players will make the difference between getting promoted and staying among the also-rans for another season.

The city side dropped into the C Division at the end of the 2013 season and have been trying to get out ever since.

They finished third in the C Division East in 2015 and were transferred to the C West for 2016.

Alphington went even closer in 2016, reaching the promotion play-offs only to miss out against Filleigh in the decider.

Skipper Stuart ShawSkipper Stuart Shaw remains in place for another season, as does player-coach Mark Halse.

Chairman Steve Baxter said the Alphas have the nucleus of a strong side, but  could do with a couple of additions.

“The club is actively seeking to strengthen the playing squad both at 1st XI and 2nd XI and would welcome new playing members,” said Baxter.

“After two near misses in 2015 and 2016 we are seeking to win promotion back to the B Division in 2017.

“We have great practice facilities and clubhouse and a very welcoming set of players.

“The message is, if you are new to the area and would like to join us, we look forward to hearing from you.”
