SOMERSET have added all-rounder Dom Bess to their 14-man squad for the Specsavers County Championship game against Warwickshire starting at Taunton tomorrow (Tuesday).

His early cricket was played at Sidmouth, then Blundell’s School, before a switch to Exeter in 2014.

Bess, part of the England U19 squad earlier this summer, made a case for inclusion in the squad with a staring performance for the 2nd XI against Gloucestershire 2nd XI at Bristol CC last week.

He took five wickets in the match – three for 50, two for 34 – and scored 126 in Somerset’s first innings.

The off-spinning all-rounder said:  “It is awesome to have been named in the squad for the first time against Warwickshire.

“The season has gone really well for me so its really good to be named in the squad and get an opportunity hopefully.

“I am enjoying my season and had a lot of success with the ball and the bat playing for the 2nd XI and making a lot of good contributions to the side.

“For me it’s nice to see that I am progressing and that all of the hard work is now starting to pay off.

“Hopefully there will be a lot of spin out there and things go in my favour.”

North Devon’s Craig Overton is being rested from the team that played at Old Trafford last week while Roelof van der Merwe, Johann Myburgh and Bess have all been added and decisions on the final line up will be delayed until the morning.

Somerset’s full squad is: Marcus Trescothick, Tom Abell, Chris Rogers, James Hildreth, Johann Myburgh, Jim Allenby, Peter Trego, Lewis Gregory, Roelof van der Merwe, Dom Bess, Ryan Davies (wk), Tim Groenewald, Jack Leach, Josh Davey
