Tickets still available for lunch with Somerset and Australia star Chris Rogers

THERE is still time to buy a ticket for the David Shepherd Cricket Trust lunch with Somerset captain Chris Rogers at the Exeter Golf & Country Club.

The Trust was set up in memory of former Devon and Gloucestershire cricketer David Shepherd, who went on to become a First Class and Test match umpire.

Supporting youth cricket is the aim of the Trust, ranging from softball cricket for beginners to specialised coaching for potential county players.

Events like lunch with Chris Rogers help raise some the £25,000 a year the Trust is committed to ploughing into youth cricket.

Only last month 33 clubs in Devon subscribed to a helmets-and-balls offer by the Trust – three youth-sized helmets and a box of match balls – at the discounted price of £50.

Typical of other work supported by the Trust is their ongoing support for coach education.

The David Shepherd Cricket Trust has agreed to support candidates who attend a Devon level two certificate in coaching children's cricket or certificate in coaching young people and adults' cricket course this winter.

Supported candidates must be a current member of the Trust and working at a Devon club with their youth section in 2017.

Membership costs £10 and entitles the candidate to apply for a £100 grant towards training costs.
