SOMERSET are sending some of their young talent to the County Ground tonight (5pm) for a T20 friendly against an Exeter Invitation XI.

The game is part of a summer of celebrations for Exeter, who opened a new £800,000 clubhouse at the start of the season.

There is a sprinkling of First Class experience in the side as Adam Hose, Alex Barrow and Tim Rouse are included.

Among the players to keep an eye out for in seasons to come are young batter Fin Trenouth, who made a county record score of 322 for the under-17 side last month against Hampshire.

Finlay Trenouth - record breaker for Somerset U17sLiam Redrup, a quick bowler who has been assisting Cornwall this season, is also in the Somerset XI.

And quick bowler Joe Gore, whose home club is Budleigh Salterton when he is not studying in Taunton, is also in the team.

Exeter have a strong Somerset connection at the moment as Ollie Sale, Dom Bess and Ben Green are all part of the Taunton set-up.

Bess isn’t available as he is with the England U19 squad in Northampton, where they are playing the Sri Lankans.

Green, who joins Bess next week for a one-day series against Sri Lanka, and Sale are included, as is Alfonso Thomas.

The former Somerset paceman left the Taunton staff at the end of last summer and has been player-coach at Exeter this season.

Exeter have invited a number of guests to strengthen their side, among them Devon batsman Dan Pyle and all-rounders Zak Bess, who works for Somerset as a physio, and Matt Golding.

“Somerset don’t play many games like this so we are privileged they are sending a side to play us,” said Exeter chairman Julian Smith, who played for Somerset 2nd back in 1976 and 1977.
