Seaton surrender unbeaten record + Filleigh on up + Wear slip up

SEATON’S unbeaten record went west in spectacular fashion when they lost by 120 runs at Cullompton.

Cully were bowled out for 186 in the 44th over – the sort of total table-topping Seaton have been chasing all season.

This time it all went pear-shaped for Ben Morgan’s men as they were skittled out for 66 in reply.

The silver lining for Seaton is they still have 19-point lead at the top of the table as second-placed Uplyme were rained off against lowly Barnstaple & PIlton and only claimed six points.

Cullompton in third are a further six points behind in third place.

Tafara Mupariwa (46) and Jason Parr (20) got the first 70 on the board for Cully then Brendon Parr (28) and man of the match Jack Grandfield (31) hoisted another 52.

Wicket taking was a collective business for Seaton, although Joe Berry did have three for 14.

Seaton were undone by Grandfield up top as he took the first two wickets then ran out Joel Seward in a running total of 29 for tnree.

Skipper Ben Morgan stablised for a while, but Grandfield snared him lbw and the slide was on.

Adrian Pullin got among the lower order as Seaton’s last six pairs totalled just 15 between them.

FENITON dropped back from fourth to fifth when Kilmington beat them by four wickets in the derby clash.

Former Devon and Minor Counties U25 all-rounder David Court was home from his job in London for the weekend and made 65 for Feninton in a total of 257 for seven.Feniton run getter Graham Tucker

Opener Graham Tucker top scored for Feniton with 74 and his stand of 118 with Court got the total up to 174 for two.

Charlie Selley shipped in with 38 not out in the last few overs.

Kilmington skipper Tom Gooding tried seven bowlers to slow Feniton down, none more effective than Matt Rockett, who had three for 46, and Tom Olive (2-43).

Kilmington won with four balls to spare having given the Feniton fielders the run round from start to finish.

Gooding (46) and Brett Williams (60) made a 96-run start, Olive (33) and Sean Perry (24) kept it going then Josh Short (30no) and Glenn Harding (17no) clinched the deal.

Selley had three for 41 from nine but lacked support.

FILLEIGH beat Axminster by four wickets to edge away from the relegation danger area.

Max Felgate made a top score of 52 as Axminster slowed up to finish on 178 for seven.

Filleigh didn’t hang about knocking off the runs and with Justin Saker making 56 – 46 coming in boundaries – they won with 15 overs to spare.

It remains close at the bottom of the table where Filleigh are 15 points clear of Axminster, who are second from bottom ahead of Barnstaple, who were rained off against second-placed Uplyme.

Axminster picked up the tempo in mid-innings with Felgate and skipper Paul Miller (27) putting on 62.

In-form Mike Wakley had gone early and there were times when Axminster slowed right up against Ryan Bowden (0-16) and Connor Nash (2-24).

Dave Field hit 21 not out at the end to earn a fourth batting bonus point.

After a double strike by Matt Pile (2-44) removed both Filleigh openers, McAuley Harrison-Hooton (37) and Saker took the score to 103 for three.

Saker carried on briefly then  Ieuan Davies and captain Simon Prideaux (31) wrapped things up.

Skipper Prideaux said the key to winning was limiting Axminster and praised his side’s efforts in the field.

“We bowled and fielded really well, especially since the outfield was lighting quick,” said Prideaux.

“I thought we were looking down the barrel of 250 plus when they won the toss and were 23 for none after two overs.

Jon Hickman nipped one back through Wakely’s defence and then we kept it really tight.”

BARNSTAPLE & PIlton’s home game against Uplme was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.COUNTESS Wear gave Clyst Hydon a run for their money before surrendering to a three-wicket defeat.

The Wear were bowled out for 140 in the 37th over as Clinton Lewis (4-24) and Chris Holmes (3-34) scythed through the middle order.

Darren Rice (27), James Bogue (27) and Ian Ballinger (22) were the main run getters for the Wear.

Losing the last five wickets for a mere 12 runs hadn’t been part of the Countess Wear script.

Kav Dias (2-29) and Mark Davey (2-31) were led the Wear fightback as Hydon slipped to 99 for six in reply.

The man Countess Wear could not shift was Sri Lankan Dhanuja Haturusingha, whose unbeaten 60 saw Hydon over the line.
