DEVON have been fighting back at Alderley Edge on the second day of their Minor Counties game against Cheshire.

The pre-lunch session was a crucial one for Devon if they wanted to stay in the game and with four wickets for Jamie Stephens and two for Josh King they could feel pleased with their efforts.

Cheshire were 138 for six at lunch - a lead of 25. Will Owen was 37 not and Dan Lamb unbeaten on nine.

Devon put men around the bat from the start and it soon paid dividends.

Harry Dearden was first to go, caught off the glove by skipper Josh Bess to give Stephens a breakthrough at 61.

Callum Rowe was next to go, caught by a running Bess at leg slip trying to reverse-sweep Stephens.

Rob Jones went bat-pad – Stephens the bowler, Dan Wolf the catcher – and trudged off feeling hard done by at 71 for three.

Ryan Brown was caught behind by Justin Yau off King, who had Cheshire captain Lee Dixon in identical fashion next ball.

Lamb thrust his pad down the track and blocked King’s hat-trick ball.

David Hurst was sixth out at 97, caught at mid-on trying to chip Stephens over the inner ring.
